This was good weekend. I got to hangout with my friend Hannah Keeler! Had a blast with her.
Valentine’s Day, I made a poster for Omni marketing, but then I decided to carry it around Downtown College, and say “Happy Valentine’s Day”.
I made a lot of people smile 😀
Today, I found a blog post someone made of me: http://ofadamandmen.wordpress.com/
SEPTEMBER 5, 2012
I cannot say that I was enthused with the idea of seeking out a stranger in the hopes that they would let me sneak a peak into their lives. This is by no stretch of the imagination an easy task. It’s scary. It is the human fear of rejection, the glistening possibility of being brandished with a “no.” But never did it cross my mind that a stranger might approach me. Not even for a second. Enter, Natalie:
Understandably, I surprised to have someone approach me as I search for someone to approach myself. I could not have predicted what would become of it. It just so happens that she was aimed in my direction. Seeking me, of all people, for my personal insights on life, particularly as it applies to the Costume Design program in which I am enrolled. The conversation quickly started rolling along, eventually landing itself more on her than I. (I couldn’t waste the opportunity that had so gracefully fallen into my lap.) I was a bit stunned to learn how many similar interests we had, primarily as they relate to the fashion industry. Yet while we had much in common, there is one dramatic difference; she is business minded, I am not.
To be specific, Natalie is a Business Marketing student. Logically, I had to inquire what this was/is. She informed me that business marketing is essentially broken down into two parts. The first is the analysis. This involves discovering the status of the current market; what people are buying, what they aren’t buying, what they are looking for but can’t find. Makes sense enough for me. The second part involves figuring out how to give the customers what they want, the problem solving. This is what she expressed as her interest in the field.
Mind you to this point she has engaged me in an almost ceaseless narrative of both herself and the whole business thing. Punctuated with nearly as much gesturing.
Pausing every so often to make sure I had kept up. Barely, but still with her, I wanted to know more. More of her, where she had come from, to have ended up seeking me out. Throughout our conversation, one thing kept coming to my mind. Few times have I ever met someone so sure of themselves. Not in any sort of arrogance, but the true knowing of what it is you want in life. She explained to me how she had been tested on her aptitude once exiting high school, and how affirming it was. But also how supportive her parents were in the process.
Her family is something very important to her, not far removed from at any one point. She told me a the story of her pocket watch, worn around the neck. Comprised of two individual pieces; the watch itself, from her mother, and the chain, a memory of her grandfather. All the while I could only help but to think of the magnitude of the symbolism with which it counted the seconds, restlessly.
A symbol of the past and of the future. A symbol of the fraction of time I spent with her, learning, listening. A symbol of motion and emotion. Ideas had, and yet to be had. If nothing more, a reminder to myself, I have no time to waste. And with that I had to let her run off to her next class, but not without just a little more visual insight into her plentiful imagination and musings.
Hope everyone had a good weekend! Post soon!
